I wonder... does RemoteRemote 2 have the same issue with iPod photo signal range?------
I wrote them and here is their response..

Hello John,
Please see our answers below...

Hello,
I was wondering, is your RemoteRemote2 device compatible with the 1st generation iPod photos (40 & 60 GB)?
Yes, it is compatible.
I assume that you are aware of Griffin Technology's competing iPod RF remote product, the AirClick. It turns out that the AirClick is incompatible with the first generation iPod photo models and will only work within about 8 feet of the iPod (something to do with interference?), but it works fine on the 2 generation iPod photos (30 & 60 GB).
Our RR products will work on either the first or second generation iPod photo with no problems or degradation in performance.
Also, does the RemoteRemote2 allow you to control the advancing of slideshows on the iPod photo?
Yes, and it will work on the first generation if you apply the iPod photo 1.1 firmware update.

Interesting! On behalf of iPod photo earlier adopters, thanks for the info
If RemoteRemote 2 doesn't have these problems, then it seems like there's hope for Griffin to work around them too--even if the issue leads back to Apple originally.
(I like RemoteRemote 2, but the hope of controlling my Mac AND iPod from one place makes AirClick the most interesting to me.)

Maybe it is time to contact Apple if you are a 1st Gen photo user (I wouldn't call it that personally).

Why is it filtering the "first" I assume it is because of the arrangement of letters!.

Have you tried the AirClick with a 1st gen that has had the update to 1.1?

I C one big thing that is missing here - it cant work with iTrip which is bad - cause I want to do both!
In addition the USB thing is not such a big deal - its just implementing the HID interface (human interface device) in my BT cellphone I can do that and even create remotes for almost any software (adding a xml to map the buttons on the phone to keyboard stroks)

Is that a regular (non Photo) 4G iPod pictured in the review? If so, how did you change the font?

Griffen should something about this. Or Apple should send out another update. This sucks for 1st gen. ipod photo. That is really mean of Apple to do. The 1st gen ipod photo wasn't even a year out before the new ones came along. If they were having trouble with the 1st generation ipod photo. People who purchased one should have Apple replace it. This sucks. Apple is starting to piss me off. 1st generations are getting skrewed. Griffen should stop shipment and fix their remotes so that 1st generation ipod photo can work too. I don't understand all the other generations work but not the 1st generation ipod photo. It doens't make sense. I think that Apple had defects on the 1st generatiosn and doesn't want to admit its flaws and tries to cover up saying that it is the same as the 30 and 60g ipod photos. There is somthing fishy!!!

I think this is a great product, but there are three things which I think Griffin could improve:
1. The clip on the remote is REALLY flimsy, and I wound up having to put it in my pocket since it was so easy to dislodge it.
2. The remote all but ceased to function when my iPod was laying down. This really sucks to tell you the truth. In order for mine to work, I had to wedge my iPod upright.
3. The AirClick quit working when I plugged my iPod into the wall outlet.

Does anyone know if either the AirClick mini or RemoteRemote mini are actually shipping yet? When shopping online for the AirClick Mini the only sites that I found that actually show inventory quantities both had 0 in stock (Computers4Sure and Tech Depot). Griffin's website allows you to purchase but didn't mention if the units were shipping yet or were backordered. The other two websites are also selling the units for $25.95 as opposed to Griffin's price of $39.95, a substantial difference.
Thanks

I have a 40gb IPOD Photo that I bought a few weeks ago and have the latest ipod software. The AirClick has a maximum reliable range of 4 feet with my ipod. Looks like the AirClick was a waste of money in my case.

Looks like a viable alternative to the wired remote (I've got through 2 of these in 15 months due to the poor strain relief and cable design)
Any ideas on a case that is long enough to accomodate the receiver attachment and still allow the headphone to pass through?
Is the RemoteRemote2 more or less usable with the pass through on the side?

This afternoon I put my 40gb Photo Ipod in my back pocket as I often do when walking the dogs. The AirClick range, which is at best 48 inches, is reduced to 8 inches. I have to have the wireless remote within 8 inches of the Ipod to to execute a command. Maybe others will have better luck but this is my experience with the AirClick.

I'm experiencing the same remote range issues as Dogman. Outside of about a foot and you're out of luck. So much for "working thru walls and greater distances". IR remotes give better range than this. Pretty disappointing.

I just received this product and my Ipod is docked in my Altec Lansing speaker thingy and the remote is terrible. I have to use line of site and as close as a few feet I'm considering returning it very dissapointed.
