Doesn't work at all in 2005 Acura TL. Just clicks and whirs them ejects. Don't bother.
Note that you'll have to sit on hold to do a return if it doesn't work for you.

The new one with the dock connector works fine with a nano in an '02 Chrysler T&C (minivan) cassette player and the steering wheel controls work, too.

I have had the headphone one for a while. Quality is good (not great, but good enough) and after a while the fast forward skipping settled down.
But.... My ipod photo keeps freezing. As we know, resetting is a difficult job and a bit of a black art so this is a major problem. I have had my ipod replaced (for another reason) and the same thing happened with the new one. If I stop using the smartdeck the freezing stops.
Anyone else had this? It makes the smartdeck unusable.

I really wanted this dock connector version to work. Unfortunately my 1997 Chrysler Sebring's tape deck does not work with this device. My clickwheel iPod skipped thru songs and within songs. UNUSUABLE. Too bad; what sound I heard sounded really good thru this unit.

I was a bit dissappointed. I threw this on a minute after i purchased it. It Bombed hard. I drive a Honda Accord and somehow it wont work. It would play for a second and then skip to another song after 2 seconds. I brought it back in FIVE minutes FIVE Minutes....

No luck here either.
VW 2003 Jetta, monsoon audio. No sound, no control, after 10 seconds it ejects and I get a tape error. Sad. A chance I was able to return it...

The dock connector version works perfectly on my Honda Insight '00. I mostly use my ipod for audiobooks and the ff/rw feature works without any problems. Audio quality is much better than my last two cassette adapters or the AirPlay. Being able to pause the Ipod without fumbling when a I get a call without having to reach for the ipod and turn off the button lock is worth the extra money alone never mind the sound quality improvements.

I bought the dock connector version in a pinch while I was in San Francisco last December. It only works sporadically in my car (2005 VW Golf), and I'm reasonably sure that I've tracked the problem down to cold weather. When the weather is warm, it works fine. When it's cold, no dice. As I live in Wisconsin, this issue is quite a drag.
I've since gone back to my regular adapter, and sadly couldn't return the SmartDeck.

Atrention! You can now charge your iPod while connected to this, because kensington's latest iPod car charger has a pass through port for the dock connector. It will be availible in July kensington's website says. Ilounge Report here: http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/news/comments/kensington-intros-4-in-1-ipod-car-charger/

IF YOUR SMARTDECK DOESN'T WORK, actually dom something more than just slamming it into your cassette slot again, GRIFFIN's own website has instructions: http://www.griffintechnology.com/support/article.php?artnum=117
Or, you could just look at your owner's manual. IT IS THAT BIG TJICK BOOK THAT CAME WITH YOUR CAR. IT WILL TELL YOU THINGS LIKE HOW TO USE A CASSETTE ADAPTER. i know, most of the general population does not do this, but your car's manual is <GASP!> the best way to find out how to use things with your car!

great product when used with 3rd gen ipods.. but, when used with click wheel ipods (mini, nano etc...) It sucks hard...
I thought the SmartDeck was defective until I Started experimenting with different ipods and found out that it does not work quite well with ipod click wheel.. I reported this to GriffinTech.. but still.. no news..
