If there was any doubt that the Canadian designers at iSkin were still capable of churning out really awesome cases for Apple’s portable devices, Vu ($65) should put that to rest: this expensive hybrid of hard and semi-soft TPU plastics is one of the smartest iPad case designs we’ve yet seen. Vu is roughly half composed of a clear but textured hard plastic shell that’s permanently bonded with a colored, glossy TPU frame, resulting in colored sides, front bezel coverage, and rear highlights, with a largely see-through back portion.
The “smartest” part comes in with the case’s optional slide-off hard Dock Connector plate, which can be left totally off if you need full-time access to the bottom accessory port, or slid on with a pop-open rubber cover that merely provides Apple cable access. Integrated top, side, and Home button covers are all here, as are pop-open headphone port and orientation switch guards — only the really small headphone port hole may be an issue for some people, as might be the lack of screen protection, which seems like a no-brainer for a plastic case at this price.
Seven colors are available, each with a screen cleaning wipe and cloth combo.
