The European version of Macally's web site says:
"Your iPod® can be easily controlled with the easy accesible buttons of the TunePro® or, from a distance, with the the Macally IP-A803™, 17 button remote control (sold separately). "
Which is OK, except the receiver sits between the (5G) iPod and the TunePro so it might just look a bit weird. And it costs €40 extra on top of the €99 for the basic unit!

in what sense is this unit not compatible with 3rd Gen iPods? Will it play but not charge? Will it not fit into the dock?

Bummer!! Finally an iPod clock radio comes along that looks perfect for me - even has a LED clock that my poor eyes can see without my glasses - then it's ruined by the lack of a remote! I don't want to reach across the bed every time I need to turn it on or off!

I think that missing remote is moot point; this has small enough footprint to be bedside and besides; shouldn’t an alarm clock get you out of bed?

JediPod - obviously, you and Macally anticipate that the TunePro will be used only to get a person in and out of bed. But I also like listening to my iPod at other times. My nightstand is on the far side of the bed. If I want to turn the unit on or off, change playlists, etc. then I have to reach way across the bed or walk around it. Yeah, I know, it is not a big deal, but then why do so many of the other iPod clock radios come with remotes?
