Damn! I didn't think it was that bad. The control's a little weird at first, but I got used to it pretty quickly. I didn't have to 'sweep' the click wheel - I just tap my thumb in the direction I want to go, and the game responds pretty well.
Of course, I don't know if I'm the most objective person - I love Pac-Man like another man might love his hot wife: Unconditionally and often.

Whoever devised that control scheme should be fired!

WooHoo! I thought it was just that I stink at video games. Now I can blame it on the controls!

I have to admit that in part it was all the bad comments about the controls of this game that got me curious enough to purchase it!
I wanted to see for myself. Well, now that I have it, I don't get the complaints. I found the controls quite easy to use and intuitive. Perhaps it's that I have a crystal film set on my iPod that is helping (it makes the surface of the clickwheel a bit smoother/slicker). In any case it works quite smoothly for me. I never take my thumb off the surface of the iPod, I simply sweep my thumb around the wheel to the direction I want to go, or across to turn around. It works much better than I expected. I don't find any need to look at the joystick graphic - Pacman always seems to go the direction I want without having to think about it. My only complaints with the game are that 1) it isn't Ms. Pacman
and 2) the animation seems a little stuttery. Number 2 isn't a big deal, but I hope they can fix it for... when they put out Ms. Pacman. That's the game I really want, but Pacman will more than do for now. It was certainly worth my $5.
