Okay... confused. Doesn't the last picture show a 4G iPod being used with this dock?

Will a USB cable charge a 3G iPod using this dock?

Sorry about that - it was a sample photo using our 40GB 4G iPod, which actually was perched on top of the iCradle but not docked. Wasn't supposed to be posted, and has been removed because of the confusion factor. Thanks for pointing it out.

I'm sure he meant "20GB/40GB" 4G as opposed to "30GB/40GB"

I just want a dock which I can put my 3g 20GB iPod in, whilst it's skin is still on it. Is that too much to ask!

Somehow, the $40 charge for the Apple dock for my 4G iPod is (so far) too much, as all I need it for is the low level inputs to send to my home stereo, and maybe as a charging stand.

The $35 price of the iCradle dock is better, but it still needs a pass through Dock Connector for the cables that come with iPod (power issue), and it needs to be 4G compatible. This bit of engineering can't be _that_ hard, can it?

The angle that the ipod rests at when docked seems too steep compared to the Apple one.

Infact the Apple ipod dock is too steep, you have to lower your head to see the LCD properly if your not using the backlight. The steep angle causes hand strain when you operate the controls while docked too.

Mobile phone desk chargers (like the ones by sony-ericsson) are much better in this regard

Is it only me who would want to use a dock for reloading (or just simply not running my ipod from batteries) while having it connected to to a stereo for listening?

I don't necessarily need it synced, and btw I can't even play music from the ipod mini while it's connected to the computer and I suppose it's like that for all mini users.. I think that would be a huge problem for a dock intended to be connected to an external hifi system.

Or is there a way to connect a power supply to this dock, that wouldn't involve connecting it to a computer?

All you need is the Apple's Firewire A/C Wall charger to connect to the Firewire cable included to the dock.

The Global Source dock includes Two free cables: Firewire and USB 2.0 cables

But the two cables cannot be used at the same time.

The USB 2.0 Cable is used for Windows PC only for data synching, NOT power charging. The Firewire Cable included is for Charging and Synching and can work in Windows PC if you have a Firewire port /card installed.

In response to what someone about the angle, Buy an IR or RF remote; it saves alot of hassle that you speak of.
They are cheap and in most stores, however the rf (http://www.engineeredaudio.com) you will probably have to order.

Overall I'm impressed with Pacific Rim's products, and glad to know they care, however they really should consider including a firewire cable for us mac users (and some pc too)
