As much as I love my iPhone, man, in my book this was a clearly under-whelming decision on Apple's part to create a non-standard application of a universally standard plug.
I walked down the iPod and Audio aisle of Best Buy the other day.. they have a rack full of stereo adapters: mini-to-mini, mini-to-RCA, mini-headphone splitter, mini-to-submini. They had a rack full of $10 to $99 headphones.
NONE would fit an iPhone. Apple just cut out interoperability with a myriad of peripherals that add value to the iPhone.
I bought the Belkin adapter, but unless I carry it with me always, it does no good.
Sigh, <vent off>
