Well, difficult to replicate considering (I believe) the design is patented. However, the concept is not.

When I got my Ety 6i, I was concerned with the length of the cord. I e-mailed their customer service to see if the cord could be shortened in anyway -- by them or another electricition or what not. They didn't recommend that, but sent me two kinds of wraps -- one from Sumajin and one from who knows else. The other one sucked -- very flimsy, the design was awkward in my pocket. The Sumajin one though was a much better fit -- and does look pretty good I thought.

We didn't mean it in the "replicate and sell it" sort of way - just that you could make something similar for your own use if you tried. Yes, the company's site does say that they're design-protected.

You are right, this is a very simple concept, although it would be hard to replicate, $5 is a little too much for a peice of rubber.

I recently got a white for myself and purple for my sister-in-law. Previously I was using a velcro wrap to pick up the slack, but purchased the Smartwrap for ease of use and looks.

Might be useful for running with the armband on, instead of having a stream of cable waving along behind me. Are those grooves big/wide enough to take the sturdy cable of the Shure E2 earbuds?

I thought this would be great, but it requires some amount of fidgeting. When you wrap the excess cord around it, you actually create a ball of weight, so it needs to be just right in order not to feel it tugging. I'm still trying to make it work because I think it has potential, but it isn't working that great for me yet.

I picked up a dozen ID badge clips. I snap it around a loop of the wires from my remote then I can clip it to my shirt or pants pocket, jacket, as needed. One on my remote and another for my shure phones. I think I paid $8.00 at an office supply store for the dozen in the impulse bin at the register.

I've found that, for me at least, these aren't that great for headphones. Mine are the perfect length. But if you have a remote this is great. When I first got an ipod remote I hated how long the cord was and wrapped it around my ipod. Then I always had to unwrap it if I wanted to look at the screen and it sucked. So I stopped using the remote. But then I got a smartwrap and yay! The cord is thicker than that of the headphones but it still wraps around fine- and the total cord length from my ipod to my ears is only slightly longer as I could fit the whole remote cord around the smartwrap.

I find $5.00 - $10.00 at some vendors for a small piece of silicone that probably cost less than 10 cents to produce ludicrous. But of course the whole price point thing with iPod accessories is ridiculous. I use a twist tie from the grocery store to deal with extra cord length right now, although I've used a rubber band in the past.

These guys ay Sumajin should be shuned like lepers of old. $5.00 for.001 worth of plastic redefines the whole idea of greed. There has to be a better cheaper way to deal with headphone cords. But, even if there isn't $5.00 is still way too much for this product.

I have several of these. I have the wraps for the earbuds... As well as a couple wraps from the USB/Power cords. I really like them. So, what if they're $5? They are very attractive and compliment the iPod nicely. I figure I'm paying a li'l extra for a perfect fit and snazzy colors.

As far as adding weight to the cord, that can be a pain 'cuz it can pull the buds outta your ears. So, I snap the very bottom end of the cord in one of the slots and THEN wrap. This way, the weight of teh cord and wrap is nearest the earbud jack. I tuck the iPod in a pocket and I have no problem.
