Using the Mini's "locking holes" is nice.
If only I needed an arm/gooseneck!
Are there any holders (with or without charging) that stick the iPod (mine's not Mini) right on the car's power outlet without an arm?
My outlet is in the perfect place already--and with no arm, there would be no sway on turns, and the iPod would be very steady when I used the controls.
Something really small and secure, with a car power plug sticking out the iPod's back would be great!

I bought this product and have used it in a Lexus where it works perfectly. I hace also used it in my wife's BMW Z4 (with an FM transmitter), the arm is a little long for this car. Finally I've used it in a selection of UK hire cars, the adaptor sometimes needs an extra push to get a good connection but it works well.

what are the chances of getting a full sized ipod version of the FlexDock? This is JUST what I need for my 20Gig 3G iPod

No! This is a horrible solution. Depending on your car, after enough left/right turns, this thing starts to loosen your lighter adapter in the dash. I have a 99 Camry, and the FlexDock pretty much ruined my lighter adapter. I know it sounds far-fetched, but trust me. I'm very much tech/gadget savvy. The iPod mini is just too heavy for the dock. There needs to be some sort of anchor mechanism to secure the long neck of this thing, it's just not a very smart design at all. Go with one of the other mounting solutions.

Lighter power sockets can be tightened by sticking your fingers or something hard inside and rotating them clockwise. They all are of a simple design with a nut holding them to the dash. If that doesn't work pull the dash apart and hold the back side while you tighten them.
Does anyone have any thoughts on using this product with the new NANOs? I suspect the adapter socket is incompatible with the NANO but I may be wrong.
