Seems like a pretty cool little gadget. I agree that more sophisticated devices will come out if there is enough interest. I like the way it changes it's personality based on your music, that's pretty innovative. I'm more interested in what breed that beautiful real dog is. Looks like a mix between a German Shepherd and a Husky.

It's confusing to me, the difference list about talks about Hasbro's i-Dog vs. Sega's. I am assuming that the original Japanese version is Sega's and the one you get in the US is Hasbro's?

Yes - Sega developed and released it first in Japan, then Hasbro made a larger (and otherwise tweaked) version.
Strobes: It's mostly the indoor lighting, which makes him look yellow. He's gray + white. A better exposed picture of him as a puppy is in the first iPodlounge/iLounge Buyers Guide (Backstage), which you can find by searching for Bookshelf on the site.

The Japanese version is more "intelligent" than the American version. While the American only has a light sensor, a button on the nose, and the tail (which only puts it on “sleep mode�), the Japanese version has voice recognition capabilities and a few more sensors. The Japanese version is the one who responds accurately to the music being played, the American just does the same thing all the time. So be careful when picking up this in America, if you expect interactive games, voice recognition and the 700 different sounds, get the Japanese version. The American one is a cheap iPod speaker that lights up and moves its ears.

I just got an idog.. american version.. for christmas. its mostly just a light show and plays the music on an -ok- quality speaker.... I LOVE IT!! it the most most SWEET CUTE AWESOME thing ever..hahah...its totally fun and cool.

I-dog stinks. I just bought one and it was a big rip-off. Do not, I repeat, do not, buy this thing. The lights are stupid, the sound stinks, and most of all, my dog was not imused. He ate it. I had to take him to the vet and it cost me $1000 to have the mechanical pooch removed from his stomach. For $1000, I could have purchased ten American Girl dolls. Save the vet bills and buy an itrip. Much cheaper in the long run.
