To fault stuff like this and the HP Tattoos for not providing enough protection is pretty silly. Other than a serendipitous slight protection against superficial scratches, these things are obviously only for looks.

Tunewear originally had these listed at $18.95, the price of a fairly good iPod case, and more expensive than the price of any iPod stickers we'd seen by a wide margin. Expectations go up when prices are that high, and we've adjusted those expectations based on the revised lower price.
