Case Scenario Keith Haring Crystal Case for iPhone 5c
Case Scenario's collection of Keith Haring Crystal Cases for iPhone 5c ($20) starts with a pretty standard rubber body, similar to Case-Mate's Gelli and other options on the market. It's translucent, allowing the new iPhone's colorful body to show through. What sets this one apart are the four different Keith Haring designs. The artist is known for his signature figures, and here they interact with the Apple logo in fun and playful ways.
Once the case has been installed, it fits snugly around the body of the iPhone 5c, and rises just a little over the height of the screen. The first quarter inch or so has a frosted finish, while the rest is clearer, but not totally transparent. All four versions of the case have the artist’s signature at the bottom, and a design above. Two have figures framing the logo, while the others are reaching for it. They’re certainly cute designs.
Otherwise, Crystal Case is just what you’d expect from a fine TPU case. The camera opening is rather large, while the headphone port and mic, Lightning port, and speaker openings are tighter. They’re still large enough to accept third-party plugs, though. Lastly there’s the buttons, which click with a somewhat softer feel than we generally like, but are otherwise just fine.
Although it’s not a remarkable design, Crystal Case is a good option on its own, and an even better one for fans of Haring’s work. There are more functionally impressive options for $20, but this one is strong enough on its own merits to earn our general recommendation.
