It might be new to the iOS accessory space, but Apogee Electronics has been developing audio gear for 25 years, and its recently-released iOS guitar adapter Jam ($99) is right in line with its well-established musicians' tools. The silver and black plastic box has a guitar input port on one side, a multi-device connector on the other, and a gain knob in the center, indicating power and input level with a light on its face. A Dock Connector cable is included for use with the iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch, while a USB cable can be used with Macs, providing Apple users with the ability to connect an electric guitar or bass for use with Garageband and other audio apps. Lightweight, powered by the connected Apple device, and attractively designed, Jam hangs two feet from the iOS device, with a locking mechanism built into the cables to prevent accidental disconnection.
