Review: Amzer Silicone Skin Jelly Case for iPhone 5
We've reviewed versions for the iPad and iPad mini; now, here's Amzer's Silicone Skin Jelly Case for iPhone 5 ($10). Like the larger models, it's a simple silicone rubber case, and the main appeal is the ultra-low price. Thankfully, it doesn't feel cheap, and Amzer offers many colors.
Although it’s obviously scaled down, the Silicone Skin Jelly Case is almost identical to the tablet versions. It easily wraps around the body of the iPhone 5, offering a very nice quantity of coverage. There’s a protective lip, and the edges are fully covered—except for an opening around the side switch and another along the bottom for the ports, microphone, and speaker. The portion of the bezel underneath the screen is fully covered, including a raised protector for the Home Button. The raised X has also made its way over on the back, although we’re quite happy to see that there’s no cutout for the Apple logo this time around.
Silicone Skin Jelly Case will do a good job of protecting your iPhone 5 if you drop it, and protects all the buttons without reducing their tactility. For most people, there’ll be no issue sliding it in and out of a pocket. Ultimately, it’s a very good case boosted to the higher recommendation level by its low price tag. While it’s not the most stylish option out there, it does everything a great case should, making it worthy of an A- rating.
