Review: Ballistic Smooth Series Case for iPhone 5
Some iPhone 5 cases have received moderate redesigns along with stretched out frames to fit the iPhone 5, but Ballistic's Smooth Series Case for iPhone 5 ($30) is pretty much identical to the last version of the case, apart from its size. It has the same smooth rubber body, replaceable corner bumpers, and button coverage. As with the iPhone 4/4S version, the thick material over the Sleep/Wake button decreases the tactility greatly, requiring the user to press much harder than they'd otherwise have to. The camera hole is now narrower, and there's one long opening along the bottom edge for the I/O, rather than separate holes. No screen protection is included.
Because there were no significant changes to Smooth Series Case, it earns the same general recommendation as before. It’s protective but somewhat plain, which will appeal to users who prefer neutral-looking cases. The ability to customize the color of the corners is an added benefit. We’d like to see Ballistic evolve this case in the future, however, as gradual (or major) tweaks can lead to significantly better products.
