As the latest release from Hard Candy and Gumdrop Cases, AirShell for iPhone 4 ($35) is a surprisingly expensive, no-frills hard plastic rear and side shell with one of two types of coating. Sold in your choice of ten colors, AirShell basically parrots the design of earlier releases from Incipio (Feather) and Asian OEMs, adding only an extra rear edge bevel to the mix. AirShell is offered in "Skater Nation" (matte soft touch rubber) and "Palm Tree" (glossy, pearlescent) versions, neither with any sort of screen protection, and using almost entirely open tops and bottoms. They're far from the most impressive things we've seen from Hard Candy and Gumdrop.
