Review: Kanex Foldable iDevice Stand
First made available as a pack-in with the company's Multi-Sync Keyboard, Kanex is now offering its Foldable iDevice Stand ($18) as a standalone item, sold in a two-pack. The identical plastic stands fold flat when not in use, measuring about 3.25" by 2.75". They then fold out, and can hold your device at 59°, 63°, 69°, or 75° angles. Rubber lines the base where the tablet rests, and four feet prevent slipping.
Thanks to a little less than half an inch of space left between the front and back supports, iPads and iPhones can be used regardless of whether they’re bare or in a case. This is always a positive for stands, and no different here. If there’s any problem with the design, it’s that there’s no typing angle. As a video viewing solution though, it’s attractive, portable and affordable, with the stands averaging out to $9 a piece—you can easily get one and give one to a friend or family member. While we would still recommend Belkin’s FlipBlade Adjust or Cooler Master’s JAS mini for someone who needs greater versatility of angles, the Foldable iDevice Stand is a very good budget viewing solution, and earns a strong general recommendation.
