Power Support was one of the first companies to release super-thin clear plastic shells for iPhones and iPods, but has arrived late to the party and a little underdressed with its Air Jacket for iPad ($45). Deliberately designed to be minimalist, Air Jacket is a super-thin opaque matte black or completely transparent shell that snaps onto the back, top, bottom, and sides of the iPad, using holes to expose controls, ports, microphone and speakers. New is a very, very slight elevation along the sides, designed to keep a face-down iPad from rubbing its screen against the surface below, and very angular tapering around the holes -- super-small headphone port and Dock Connector holes might worry some users of larger plugs, though Apple's work fine. Surprising given the price: there's no screen protection in the package. Note also that the black version has a grippy soft touch rubber finish, while the clear one is as glossy as can be. Updated: The clear Air Jacket cracked and broke in the headphone port area the first time we removed it from the iPad. Not good.
