Based heavily on the earlier CandyShell case for iPhone 3G, CandyShell for iPod touch 2G ($35) is a unique two-layer glossy hardshell with a soft rubber lining, packaged with a full screen protector. Together, these layers cover every part of the second-generation iPod touch save for its bottom ports; you can choose from a white shell with red lining and piping, or a black shell with a yellow interior. Unlike the iPhone version, the iPod touch case has no issue with oversized headphones, and its rubber lining appears to be more resilient -- less subject to the cracking we experienced before. Apart from its slightly steep price and the comparative lack of color options, we have every reason to love this case, which combines the best features of hard and soft cases with great protection and styling. It's highly recommended.

Editor’s Note October 9, 2009: Speck has released updated colors for the CandyShell for iPod touch.
