Affordable laptops and workspace essentials for remote work highlighted in a 2026 buying guide

Remote workers often choose a laptop for completing daily tasks, as it offers the best balance of power and portability. A laptop needs very little space for setup and could be the perfect device for working in your condo at Hudson Place Residences. That said, there are a few things to keep in mind when shopping for your next computer online.

The Newer, the Better

The machines that have been released over the last few years are much more improved than the ones that debuted 3 or 4 years ago. Aside from being more capable, they have the hardware to run work more efficiently. In addition, some of the things you’d have to purchase separately are already built in, such as a webcam and speakers.

Memory and Storage are King

Memory is sometimes referred to as RAM and is arguably the most important component in a WFH laptop. The bare minimum is now at least 16GB to be able to run a dozen or so browser windows and apps. As for storage, you’d want at least 500GB so you can store all your documents and files.

Connectivity and Ports

You’ll want your work laptop to be able to accept and support all the accessories you need on a daily basis, so look for modern ports such as USB-C and Bluetooth. You can expand those ports with an adapter for fitting in a second monitor, a printer, or similar hardware.

Weight and Battery

This is more of an objective sense because it’s different for each person. Some would want their machine to be more portable to support their digital nomad lifestyle, while others prefer a bit more heft in the battery department, so they won’t be plugging into a wall ever so often. Remember, the lower the weight the lower the battery and the higher the price tag.
