How the Dreame PM20 Uses Radar, Sensors, and Smart Airflow to Fight Dirty Air Indoors

How the Dreame PM20 Uses Radar, Sensors, and Smart Airflow to Fight Dirty Air Indoors

The world of air purification has long been dominated by machines that look modern but function in fundamentally old-fashioned ways: suck in air, push it through a filter, and release it. But Dreame’s new AirPursue PM20 represents a meaningful shift. It goes beyond air filtration: it’s about responsiveness, adaptability, and understanding the air you live in.

First introduced at CES 2025, the PM20 was called the world’s first AI-powered and radar-tracking air purifier by analysts at Frost & Sullivan. That sounds lofty, but what does it mean? For starters, it means this purifier knows when you’re in the room—and adjusts itself accordingly.

How the Dreame PM20 Uses Radar, Sensors, and Smart Airflow to Fight Dirty Air Indoors

The secret lies in Dreame’s proprietary Enviro Detect™ Technology, which uses millimeter-wave radar to detect human movement within a five-meter radius. Walk into a room, and the PM20 automatically turns on. Sit down in one corner, and it subtly shifts the airflow in your direction. When multiple people are detected, the device balances the air output side to side to maintain coverage. This is a big leap from set-it-and-forget-it purifiers that don’t know (or care) whether someone is home.

Air delivery is another major upgrade. Most purifiers push air upward to avoid blowing on users, but the PM20 uses Dualflow Modulation Technology, pushing filtered air up and out across the room. This creates a more uniform air distribution pattern, and it works. In tests, it covers up to 100 square meters (1,076 square feet) and projects air up to 10 meters forward. The result is a living space with fewer dead zones and more responsive air circulation.

Then there’s the data. Inside the PM20 are seven high-accuracy sensors tracking everything from PM1 to PM10, as well as formaldehyde, VOCs, temperature, and humidity. That information is displayed on an LCD screen in real-time, so you never guess what you’re breathing. With app integration and voice control, it fits neatly into a connected home system.

Filtration is handled through a 4-layer system, including a HEPA H13-rated filter, an activated carbon layer, and a catalytic formaldehyde filter that doesn’t need replacing. It’s rated to eliminate 14 airborne pollutants and 9 types of bacteria and viruses. While most filters capture, this one breaks down compounds like formaldehyde into water and CO₂: a rare feature, especially at this price point.

What may surprise some users is that the PM20 also serves as a space heater and air circulator. In colder months, it heats air in as little as three seconds. In warmer seasons, it helps move cool air throughout the room. That versatility isn’t a gimmick—it makes the PM20 a year-round fixture, not just an allergy-season tool.

How the Dreame PM20 Uses Radar, Sensors, and Smart Airflow to Fight Dirty Air Indoors

It’s hard not to be impressed by a machine that reads your environment in real time and reacts without input. Unlike many so-called “smart” devices, the Dreame PM20 doesn’t just connect to your phone; it behaves intelligently. And in a world where indoor air quality increasingly matters, it’s timely innovation.

Top 5 Features Rundown:

1.  Radar-Powered Human Tracking: Airflow automatically adjusts based on your movement in the room.

2.  Dualflow Modulation Technology: Simultaneous upward and forward airflow improves room-wide circulation.

3.  7 Real-Time Sensors + LCD Display: Monitors fine particles, gases, temperature, and humidity with high precision.

4.  4-Layer Filtration System: Captures and decomposes 99.99% of pollutants, including allergens and formaldehyde.

5.  Multifunction Comfort: Doubles as a fast-acting heater and air circulator for year-round use.

The Dreame AirPursue PM20 is available now for $999.99, with limited-time offers through Dreame’s official website and Amazon store. If you’re looking for an air purifier that adapts to your space, thinks for itself, and works year-round, this might be the smartest upgrade.
