Know your audience
It’s an important thing to remember regardless of what you’re writing about. Who is your audience? How old are these people? Why are they interested in this gadget? What are their priorities? Answer these questions, and writing the review will become much easier.
Not only a review, but any text you write has some aim. When you identify your audience, reaching your goal will be less challenging. If your review is supposed to push people to buy a gadget, you must know what they’re looking for. If you want to share your use experience and make it exciting, you have to know what is interesting for the audience.
Knowing the audience of your review gives answers to many questions you have before start writing. What language do you have to use? What jokes will be good and understandable? And what benefits of a gadget are a priority for your readers? If you define your audience, you get answers almost immediately.
Your review must be unique. People can find the technical characteristics of a gadget on the company’s official site or at any online shop that sells it. It’s okay to include those characteristics in your review, but don’t do it at the beginning. If the readers see that the review begins with shared information, they can quickly lose interest and go to find another source of information.
The best way is to incorporate characteristics in your review. Don’t simply say that a gadget has some technical characteristics. Explain to the audience what they get from it. How fast the thing works, how good pictures it takes, how long it works without charging, and so on.
People often choose from a few options when choosing a new gadget. You can help them by comparing popular options and sharing your opinion about one gadget’s advantages and disadvantages over another.
You can also compare a new gadget with an older version, or with your previous gadget with the same functions, if you had one. It’s an effective way to explain the benefits of a new gadget to people who aren’t very good at technology. They might not get specific characteristics of the battery, but they will clearly understand if you tell that a new gadget can work twice as long without charging.
Unboxing is a popular thing, and many people like to watch it. But if you want to write an excellent review, you must write it from your personal experience. It is the thing that people are looking for in the reviews.
We all can read technical characteristics, and find out what is provided in the box, except the gadget itself. And we know from an advertisement which new abilities and benefits of the gadget is supposed to surprise us.
The thing people are so desperately looking for in reviews is real experience of using the gadget. Is it really as good as the advertisement promises? How is it in use? Do you find any drawbacks that aren’t expected or obvious? Use a gadget at least a few days and then share your experience. You’ll have much more things to say about it.
The internet is full of the different reviews, which authors never hold a gadget they wrote about in their hands. Those can be both advertisement, ordered by the gadget makers, or negative reviews, ordered by their competitors. And between these two differences are potential customers, looking for the true review to decide if this thing is useful or not.
Prove that your review is a real one. Provide as many specifics as you can. This will help both give the information your audience is looking for and convince the readers that you’ve really used the gadget.
If you can add pictures to your review, don’t hesitate to do it. If you can make a short video, it’s even better. It’s okay if your photos or videos won’t be in the best possible quality. It might be even better to prove that you’re making a review on your own, and it isn’t ordered by gadget makers or their competitors.
Sum up everything for your readers, and give the quick answers for those who don’t have time to delve into details. Is this gadget as good as the advertisement promises? What are its main pros and cons? Does it handle well with the tasks people might have for it? Does it have more benefits than other similar products that market offers?
People used to read quick in the internet and jump on main points instead of delve into the text. Take this into account and make your text useful for them. You can also highlight the main points of your review in the text by using bold font or any other approaches you find appropriate. Good luck with your review!
