Q: I enjoy the fact that when I rip one of my CDs into iTunes, iTunes can find all the info on the song and artwork. Is there a way to have iTunes find info about videos files from DVDs I rip and put into iTunes?
– Philip
A: Unfortunately, no.
CD track information is supplied by the GraceNote CD Database (CDDB), and the artwork is supplied by the iTunes Store. Since iTunes does not provide any method for ripping DVDs to your computer due to various legal and copyright issues, there is no method built into iTunes for automatically fetching info for DVDs.
There are third-party tools that can do some of this for you before you import the files into iTunes, however. MetaX (for Mac and Windows) can update tags and other metadata in your movie files using information from services such as Amazon, IMDb and tagChimp.
