Q: I am hoping to buy an external microphone for my iPod mini. I’ve read your reviews for the Griffin iTalk, Belkin TuneTalk, and XtremeMac MicroMemo Digital Recorder, but I am not tech savvy: do iPod minis come in different generations? Do microphones exist specifically for the mini? Is there enough space on a mini for long interviews?

A: Unfortunately, you can stop researching microphones immediately—the iPod mini simply doesn’t have the capability to utilize any existing microphone devices.
Apple has long reserved the capability to record voice memos and Camera Connector compatibility exclusively for its full-size iPod models. Even today’s iPod nano models do not have these capabilities.
