If you’ve seen our prior coverage of Nintendo’s DS Lite on Backstage, you’ve probably been wondering about the price and release date for the United States. Today, Nintendo of America released the details: June 11, a Polar White version of the DS Lite (like the one shown on Backstage) will be available for “as low as $129.99” from U.S.
retailers. The “as low as” reference is a new one for Nintendo, suggesting either that the company is switching to a fluid pricing model for the new handheld rather than a MSRP, or that the company is expecting launch day shortages and price gouging.
