Gear4’s new Buckingham ($70) is a stylish new folio case for the iPad mini 4 that uses D3O’s patented technology to provide “military grade” shock absorption and impact protection without adding extra bulk to the case. The iPad mini fits snugly into the base of the case, which provides full side and top button coverage as well as a raised edge at the front.
The folio cover and rear of the case is made from a sleek, matte black material, with an exposed plastic section on the back that seems designed for holding your finger in a comfortable position against the back of the case when using the iPad.
The folio cover includes smart cover capabilities, sleeping and waking the iPad when opened and closed, and is held closed with a magnetic clasp that wraps around the back of the case. A loop for storing a stylus or pen is also included on the inside of the clasp.
Six card/paper slots are located inside the front cover — four smaller business card sizes slots below two larger horizontal slots that would be suitable for small notes or receipts. The case can also be used as a stand to prop up an iPad in landscape view — no “fixed” stand positions are provided, but the case material carries enough friction to hold the iPad at just about any angle.
