Grovemade has introduced a number of new Wood + Leather Cases for iPhone SE, iPhone 6/6s, and iPhone 6/6s Plus. We received the larger versions, which cost $109 for iPhone 6/6s and $119 for iPhone 6/6s Plus. The new cases come in either maple and leather (a lighter wood with a light brown leather backing), or walnut and leather (a darker wood with a black leather backing). As with previous Grovemade cases, the Wood + Leather Cases come in two pieces — the iPhone is inserted into a wood frame, and the back of the case is applied to the rear of an iPhone with a sticky backing.
The leather backings on these new Grovemade cases are minimally treated, and designed to develop their own markings over time — our maple and leather case took on a slight scratch almost immediately. Whether that’s aesthetically pleasing is a personal decision. For what’s it worth, we prefer the look of the darker walnut and leather case. These cases do provide proper button coverage, but they’re also more appealing to those who value fashion and design far above protection. The Lightning port cutout is also too small for some third-party plugs. For further thoughts on a similar Grovemade case, check out our earlier review of the Maple iPhone Case for iPhone 6.
