Standalone batteries continue to improve, and iWalk’s upcoming Scorpion 8000 ($60) is sure to be one of the better options out there once it hits the market. While a number of battery packs often include built-in charging cables, Scorpion goes a step beyond — the 8000 mAh battery has a Lightning cable, micro-USB cable, AND a thin USB cable that can be plugged into an adapter to recharge the battery itself. This means no extra cables are necessary to use Scorpion 8000, but a micro-USB port and USB port are on the battery, just in case.
An LED battery gauge is also present. The battery has an input of 2.4A, and the maximum total output is the same (0.5A-2.4A).
It’s easy to see why Scorpion 8000 is an attractive option — it’s an affordable battery with a relatively high capacity, and it requires carrying no other cables.
Just toss the battery in your pocket (it’s pretty thin) or a bag and you’re ready to go. Scorpion 8000 also supports passthrough charging and data syncing with iOS devices, making it even more attractive. iWalk’s upcoming battery is a great alternative to batteries with built-in wall plugs — you may prefer one or the other for a number of reasons.
