Speck has released its Balance Folio protective cases for 10.5” iPad Pro as well as the 12.9” iPad Pro. The new cases bring Speck’s quality drop protection to Apple’s newest pro tablets with a stylish yet minimalist design that’s 20% slimmer than the company’s StyleFolio iPad cases.
Both Balance Folio cases provide full interior lining protection and are drop-tested for protection of up to four feet, with a raised bezel to protect the screen when the case is open.
The folio cover provides the ability to prop your iPad Pro up at just about any viewing or typing angle, and a sturdy closure latch keeps the cover securely closed so it won’t flip open when you don’t want it to. It’s also Smart Cover compatible, with the necessary embedded magnets that will turn off your iPad when closing the case, or wake it up when opening it. The 12.9” version is available in three colours combinations — black/slate grey, marine blue/twilight blue, and syrah purple/magenta pink — while the 10.5” version adds dark poppy/velvet red and stormy grey/charcoal grey to the mix.
Update: As noted in the comments, for reasons we’re not quite clear on only the 12.9” version of the Balance Folio case is Smart Cover compatible. The 10.5” version doesn’t include the necessary magnets, which is particularly unusual considering that Speck’s version of Balance Folio for the fifth-generation 9.7” iPad also includes the magnets.
Update #2 (July 11, 2017): We reached out to Speck and they confirmed our findings, responding that “Balance Folio for iPad Pro 10.5 does not feature sleep/wake magnets, however this will be implemented in the product in the next month.
