Speck has entered the fray of inexpensive virtual reality viewers with its new Pocket-VR with CandyShell Grip for iPhone 6/6s. Pocket-VR is a foldable, hard plastic viewer that can accommodate an iPhone 6/6s. As part of the package, buyers get the well-reviewed CandyShell Grip case for iPhone 6/6s. Pocket-VR works with compatible VR apps, such as Jaunt and Google Cardboard-compatible apps.
Pocket-VR is a good option for those who are seriously into the sort of makeshift VR that can be done on an iPhone 6/6s — if you’ve never tried it before, it’s definitely not going to feel like you’re using an Oculus Rift or HTC Vive, but it’s pretty cool for something on the cheap. Speck’s viewer is more expensive than nearly every viewer currently listed on Google’s Cardboard page, but it’s also bound to be more durable than most, and far more portable. Though the placement of our iPhone 6s within the viewer seemed a bit precarious at first, it proved to be sturdy. If you’re interested in this sort of VR — and you’re looking for a top-notch iPhone 6/6s case — Speck’s package is appealing. If you’re only looking to dabble with VR viewing and you don’t have a need for portability, a number of other viewers are much less expensive.
