Now that wireless charging is all the rage with the latest iPhones, companies are coming up with some interesting new ways of combining wireless charging into everyday items. TaoTronics’ LED Desk Lamp is yet another example of this, incorporating a Qi-compatible wireless charger into a fairly nice LED desk light.
TaoTronics provides a decent lamp in and of itself — it can be set to five different color temperatures and seven brightness levels and the lamp head and arm can be tilted and swivelled in multiple directions.
Touch controls on the base let you intuitively set the brightness level via a slider or cycle through color temperatures by tapping, and your settings are preserved even after you turn the lamp off, so you won’t need to readjust it every time you turn it on. The base includes a basic one-amp USB charging port for traditional wired charging, and also incorporates a wireless charger capable of providing 10 watts of power.
It’s worth mentioning, however, that TaoTronics lamp doesn’t appear to be officially Qi-certified — although it worked fine in our own limited testing without any obvious problems, the lack of Qi certification leaves room for some valid concerns.
