While not everybody is a fan of folio cases for an iPhone, Twelve South’s BookBook is among the classiest and most unique cases you’ll find in this style, and the company has of course updated its classic BookBook lineup with BookBook for iPhone 7 ($70) and BookBook for iPhone 7 Plus ($70). Still available in the classic colours of vintage brown leather and black, BookBook provides a wallet case that’s unlike any other, with generous room for storing cards — especially on the Plus version — and the aesthetic design of an old book.
It’s kind of ironic twist on iPhone cases, taking something as sleek and modern as the iPhone 7 and disguising as something that looks like it came out of the 18th century, but somehow it works. The iPhone 7 Plus version includes five card slots, with one exposed for inserting an ID card, while the iPhone 7 version comes in with four slots.
The iPhone is held in a plastic inner shell that can be adjusted to prop up the case as a stand and also be detached from the leather folio for those times when you want more convenient access to the iPhone; this latter feature provides the best of both worlds for those who may not always want to deal with the awkwardness of a folio case, although the shell is fairly basic and is not what we’d call protective by itself, so our take is that it’s more of a convenient way to use the iPhone when sitting on your couch at home than something that you’d carry with you when out and about. Although not much has changed since we reviewed the BookBook for iPhone 6 Plus, it’s hard to improve on an already great thing, and BookBook for iPhone is still one of our favourite iPhone cases of all time.
