If you like the idea of a luxurious wallet case for your iPhone but aren’t really a fan of the look that Twelve South’s BookBook offers, the company now has an alternative: Journal for iPhone is a premium, all-leather wallet case that takes the BookBook’s design up a notch, providing a more classic, clean wallet look and improved protection with many of the same features.
Available in black or cognac, Journal is made from full-grain, quality leather that’s definitely a cut above the BookBook in feel. Further, unlike BookBook, the iPhone snaps into a composite shell in Journal that’s not removable, and has a raised edge that offers even better protection in the event that you drop your iPhone in such a way that the case flips open.
The sides of the shell are also covered in the same leather as the rest of the case, which looks especially great on the lighter cognac version. Unfortunately, Journal provides one fewer card slot than BookBook — you’ll be able to store three cards in the iPhone 7 version, or four in the iPhone 7 Plus version — however the slots on Journal also run to the edges of the flap, providing a bit more flexibility and a much nicer look.
Despite the non-removable shell, Journal can also still double as an iPhone stand, and in our opinion does so a bit more elegantly than BookBook as you don’t need to adjust the shell first. Journal isn’t as unique as BookBook, but we think that’s rather the point; with Journal, Twelve South takes it’s already classy BookBook design to an entirely new level with a clean and elegant wallet case that should appeal to an even wider audience.
