Apple’s Logic Pro studio app has become a staple in the professional recording industry, and the debut of Logic Pro X a couple of years ago made some huge strides in making the app even more accessible and polished. With the release of the latest update, Logic Pro X 10.1 ($200), Apple adds a handful of new advanced features such as an intelligent beat profile for electronic and hip hop styles, as well as some handy Yosemite integrations such as MailDrop and AirDrop support.
The update provides 10 new drummers designed specifically for electronic and hip hop genres, such as Techno, House, Trap, and Dubstep, with specialized sound and performance controls designed for those new styles. New editing and viewing options allow users to easily create a sequence of notes with a single mouse gesture, view more notes on screen and help to more easily identify drum sounds.
A new Smart Quantization feature has also been added, and the Compressor plug-in has been redesigned to feature a scalable, Retina-ready UI with seven new models. The sound library gets expanded with 200 new synth patches, and a whole slew of new editing controls are available throughout the app to help fine-tune automations and edit and work with notes.
