If you’re thinking $500 is crazy expensive for a 1TB speaker these days, we’re right there with you. But exceptions can be made for works of art, and LaCie’s new Sphère ($490) may be one of them. Designed, handcrafted and silvered by Christofle in France, it’s definitely a looker.
The specs may not be killer, but you’re paying for the packaging with this one.
A reflective silver ball, Sphère’s extremely clean design is helped by the fact that there’s only one cable coming out the back. The drive relies on USB 3.0 for both data connection and power.
Inside, there’s a 1TB drive; this may not end up being your primary backup solution, but that’s still a sizable amount of storage. It packs in all the other features we’ve come to expect from a LaCie drive, including Time Machine support and password protection.
