Apple has announced the exclusive publication of interactive digital editions of Game of Thrones to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the popular George R.R. Martin best-seller. The new interactive iBooks will allow readers to go deeper into the history of some of the great houses of Westeros, via interactive character maps, detailed annotations, and more, along with glossary terms that will provide insight into character connections and the lineage of the various houses. An appendix of all 92 house sigils is also included, with comprehensive information about symbolism, house seats, regions, and allegiances.
“We’re now entering a new period in the history of publishing,” said author George R.R. Martin. “The digital book gives readers the ability to experience all this rich secondary material that had not been possible before. These enhanced editions available only on iBooks include sigils and family trees and glossaries.
Anything that confuses you, anything you want to know more about, it’s right there at your fingertips. It’s an amazing next step in the world of books.”
Book One, A Song of Ice and Fire, is available on the iBooks Store now, and includes an exclusive preview of the as-yet-unpublished Book Six, The Winds of Winter. Books Two through Five will also be coming to the iBooks Store in coming months, with the enhanced digital edition of The Clash of Kings scheduled for Oct. 27, and the others to follow at approximately six to eight week intervals into March 2017.
