Apple is leasing 128,000 square feet of space in an office building in Culver City for its content production group, according to a new report by Variety. The location at 8777 Washington Boulevard was originally expected to be occupied by HBO, however they recently backed out of the deal, leaving the field open for Apple to move in.
The news was first reported by The Real Deal; Variety subsequently confirmed the news with Thomas Small, the mayor pro tem of Culver City. According to The Real Deal, Apple also still intends to lease another 75,000 square feet at another nearby facility at 5500 Jefferson Blvd.
Apple was first reported to be setting its sights on locating its video content team in Culver City last fall, with news suggesting the company was eyeing the iconic Culver Studio, however it appears that Apple may have been beat out by Amazon, who recently announced plans to lease space in that facility. Notably, Apple already has a presence in Culver City in the form of its Beats subsidiary, which is located in the nearby Hayden Tract.
