Apple will ship a total of 86.4 million iPhones in 2011, making it the largest smartphone manufacturer in the world by volume, according to new estimates from Digitimes. Luke Lin, an analyst for Digitimes Research, said that Apple’s total would represent 82 percent year-over-year growth for Apple, putting it past Nokia, which is predicted to ship 74.4 million units, down from over 100 million in 2010. Apple and Nokia are followed in the projections by Samsung with 67 million estimated units shipped, RM with 55.7 million, and HTC with 49.7 million. [via Fortune]
