In addition to major announcements made at this year’s Apple Worldwide Developers’ Conference (WWDC), Apple today unveiled the iPad Smart Case, confirming our report from March that the company was working on a superior version of the heavily marketed but expensive and under-protective iPad Smart Cover. Six color options are available for the polyurethane design—light and dark grey, blue, green, pink, and red—which for the first time in Apple accessory history can be personalized with free laser engraving from the Apple Store.
The Smart Case promises to protect both of the iPad’s sides without impairing its lightness, featuring the same four-segment magnetic pyramid lid found originally in the Smart Cover. Compatible with both the iPad 2 and third-generation iPad, it is available for $49 immediately.
