Orbotix has announced that Sphero, its smartphone-controlled robotic ball, will be available later this year. Recipient of an iLounge 2011 CES Best of Show Finalist Award, the Sphero is roughly baseball-sized, and can be controlled by an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Android device over Bluetooth, via a standard control app or through specialized apps.
Features include integrated, color-changing LED lights, and an included induction charging base. Orbotix’ Sphero is expected to ship later this year for $130; the company is taking free reservations now.
