According to a Reuters report, Walmart is currently testing an iPhone app-based checkout alternative that allows shoppers to scan items using their phones and pay at a self-checkout counter.
Notably, the test system doesn’t involving paying via phone; instead, the app transfers the list of scanned items to the self-checkout kiosk, where testers complete the transaction normally with cash or cards.
Walmart invited employees with iPhones to participate in testing at a store near the company’s headquarters in Arkansas.
