Windows: Speed-Up Beta 1 for XPlay Released
iLounger Adam G. reports that Mediafour has made an announcement in their forums on the release of Speed-Up Beta 1 for XPlay 1.0.4. Dave (Forum Administartor) at Mediafour warns, “Keep in mind, of course, that this is an experimental software release…if you are worried about the data on your computer or the songs on your iPod, you would be well-advised to stay clear, as anything can happen with prerelease software.”
- What does it do?
- XPlay Speed-Up Beta 1 is a replacement database engine that completely transforms the experience of using XPlay to deal with an iPod containing thousands of songs.
- With the new engine in place, huge directory listings gets magnitudes faster, and mass manipulation of songs (such as selecting 2,000 songs and changing their equalization settings all at once) gets staggeringly faster.
- As soon as this reinvented XPlay database engine is judged to be ready for prime time, it will go into a new release of XPlay, along with a couple of other nice improvements.
- If you try XPlay Speed-Up Beta 1, please post in this forum and let everyone know how it is working for you.

“Apple banks on digital media harvest”Joe Wilcox of CNET News.com forecasts the announcement of a new digital hub device during Steve Jobs’ keynote address at Macworld. Wilcox goes onto examine analysts’ predictions that the new device will be a tablet PC or iPod II.
“But some analysts don’t believe the new product will be a tablet, but a successor to Apple’s iPod music player. The new device would have video capabilities and possibly a touch screen and wireless capabilities. As such, the device would be similar to the portable video player unfurled by Intel last year.
