After getting out its first Lightning cable under the Kenburg LightLinez brand, CableJive is now selling Lightning cables directly under the iBoltz series. There’s iBoltz XS, which is simply a rebadged version of Lightlinez XS, and iBoltz XL ($25), a new two-meter cable. Like most Lightning cables, it’s nothing terribly exciting: both plugs are white, with a little less than 6.5 feet of cord between them. Notably, this cable is $4 less than Apple’s recently-introduced Lightning to USB Cable (2m).

Compared to Apple’s cable, iBoltz XL is larger in a few dimensions. The cable gauge is larger, for example, which isn’t necessarily a problem, but is noticeable. The material coating the cable is also a little bit lower quality than Apple’s; instead of the nice matte finish, it’s glossy, and ours arrived with a few scuffs. We also found the plastic housings around the plugs to be bigger, an issue that’s particularly notable when it comes to the Lightning connector. This one is among the biggest we’ve seen, so it may have issues fitting into the openings of some cases.
The 2-meter Lightning to USB Cable from Apple warranted a limited recommendation for its high price, and despite the fact it’s a few dollars cheaper, iBoltz XL comes in at the same level. You’ll save $4 but also lose some cosmetic appeal and compatibility with certain cases. It’s an acceptable solution, but not the best.
