One of the newest case manufacturers is also one of the most socially conscious. Case for USA has recently launched its first offering, LifeJacket for iPhone 4 ($30). The case is made of 100% recycled plastic — a simple shell that snaps onto the back of both the GSM- and CDMA-based models.
There are wide openings along the top, left side, and bottom for full access to the headphone port, noise canceling mic, Sleep/Wake button, side switch, volume rocker, and Dock Connector port, and the case comes up past the glass face of the iPhone 4 to form a protective lip. A number of designs and colors are available, each bundled with Japanese screen protecting film.
What’s even more interesting than the case itself is the company: everything is made in the USA, and designed to be recyclable. Case for USA uses minimalist packaging composed of a simple piece of cardboard, plus a piece of twine holding the case in place—shipping bags are biodegradable, and old newspaper is used instead of packing peanuts.
For each case sold, Case for USA promises to donate 25 meals to Americans in need. The company also runs a Case4Life program, wherein customers are entitled to 50% off the purchase of future cases for the same device. You can even earn coupons for doing good deeds in your community.
