On the surface, FrappeDesign’s Executive Folio for iPad ($69) looks like many other flip-closed folio designs we’ve previously seen for Apple’s tablet computer, offering a faux leather exterior with interior pockets capable of holding business cards, envelopes, a pen, and of course an iPad. But this particular design offers something rivals almost invariably do not: there’s just enough of a footprint to squeeze unfolded 8.5″ x 11″ pieces of paper in with little room to spare on the sides, while A5/B5 notepads fit without squeezing anything.
A zipper seals the entire case closed so that your iPad can be protected in one of two compartments capable of holding the device, and an aluminum-reinforced stand inside can help you prop up the iPad for viewing or typing on the go. The tradeoff in this case is the fact that the iPad always needs to be removed from a pocket before you can use it, and kept bare so that it can fit inside of the pockets, but some business users may value the convenience of the “carry it all together” design.
Gray and brown versions have smooth exterior surfaces, while the black one has a more realistic leather grain texture. Extra points go to FrappeDesign for its simple recycled cardboard package, which neatly holds the Folio inside, has a carrying handle at the top, and completely eliminates the need for plastics or added bulk in shipping.
