As British company Gear4’s version of Logitech’s Pure-Fi Anywhere, Explorer-SP ($160) is a portable speaker with an eight-hour rechargeable battery and a wall adapter in the package for alternate power options, a zippered soft fabric carrying case, and a handful of Dock Adapters for older iPod and iPhone models. No promises are made about the number of fabric-covered speaker drivers inside, but the glossy black system appears to feature two roughly 3″ full-range drivers, plus an optional “3D sound” button for enhanced treble performance. Swing-out legs let it stand up on its own, and an Infrared remote is included in the package for control from a distance. A year after its release, Explorer-SP remains very hard to find in the United Sttes.
