Go Tablet’s Padded Ballistic Nylon Travel Case/Bag for iPad + iPad 2 ($40) is definitely a bit different than any case we have seen before. As its name implies, it’s a nylon bag but it doubles as a case that stays on the tablet while it is in use. Although the bag’s functionality is OK, it doesn’t make a very good case, and is particularly ill-suited to the iPad 2.
Holding your iPad inside in portrait orientation, the Padded Ballistic Nylon Travel Case/Bag feels like it’s put together pretty well; we liked the ballistic nylon that makes up the entire body, as well as all of the solid-feeling zippers, pulls, metal D-rings and metal clips for the shoulder strap. Viewed solely as a carrier for the tablet, it’s not bad—the biggest problem is that there isn’t much room for anything else.
While there is a slot behind where the iPad rests, and a pocket on the back of the bag, that’s it. Bags generally benefit from the ability to carry more accessories.
A zipper along the top opens to reveal two inner pockets: one in the front for the iPad, and the other that we mentioned for extras. A hard piece of plastic serves as a barrier between the two.
Along the front is a U-shaped zipper; opening this reveals the tablet, which is held in place by a frame. The bezel is somewhat covered and there’s a small V-shaped cutout at the bottom that partially reveals the Home button. As the sides are fully covered, the side switch, volume rocker, Dock Connector port, and speaker are completely blocked. You can only access the headphone port, microphone, and Sleep/Wake button when the top is unzipped.
It seems obvious that the bag was made for the original iPad and just happens to fit the iPad 2: both the front and rear cameras are completely blocked by the nylon frame; there are not even partial openings for either.
