Based upon Griffin’s earlier, transparent-backed iPhone 4 case Reveal, the new Reveal Etch ($30) is a more expensive version with a more distinctive faux carbon fiber back panel described on the box as “Graphite.” Though the opaque rear panel is clearly made from plastic and adds no grip to the slippery iPhone, it looks quite nice by faux carbon fiber standards, and is accompanied by rubber edging with holes for the headphone port, microphones, speakers, and vibrate switch, plus integrated top and side button covers.
As with the original version of Reveal, Griffin’s rear cover has a keyhole-shaped hole for the iPhone 4’s back camera, which in the transparent case unfortunately interfered with the LED flash.
We’ll need to see whether Reveal Etch’s contoured hole creates the same issue, but this is otherwise a very nice-looking case, missing only screen protection for the asking price.
