Review: Gumdrop Cases DropTech Case for iPad Pro

Review: Gumdrop Cases DropTech Case for iPad Pro

We’ve seen Gumdrop’s DropTech before, and now the rugged case has made its debut on iPad Pro. DropTech Case ($60) brings the same tough black silicone/nylon coverage to iPad Pro, along with slightly extended corners for added drop protection. The Smart Connector side of the iPad Pro is left exposed to make connecting accessories such as keyboards easier, and the case also includes a built-in holder for Apple Pencil.

Unlike many iPad cases, DropTech features button coverage for the sleep/wake button and volume controls.

DropTech Case is indeed tough, as it feels like it will stand up to bumps better than a few other iPad Pro cases we’ve seen so far. It’s not as bulky as one might think, either. DropTech lacks a kickstand of its own, so it needs an accessory like Apple’s Smart Keyboard to remain upright (as pictured above), but we appreciate the case’s Apple Pencil holder — Apple’s stylus can be inserted parallel or perpendicular to the iPad display, which is a nice touch.

Our biggest issue with DropTech may be its rubbery exterior, which quickly attracted lint, dust, and pet hair like few cases we’ve ever seen. Some users may not mind this, but others may be annoyed rather quickly.

DropTech offers solid protection and a thoughtful Apple Pencil holder at a good price, but it will require a lot of cleaning and dusting off — that’s how “magnetic” this case is when it comes to dust. Nevertheless, it’s a good option for an iPad Pro accessory user.
