Wow, Gumdrop Cases actually went there: Surf Convertible ($45) is a straight-out clone of Apple’s official iPad Case, made from a nicer material — suede-finished faux leather — and available in three colors rather than just one.
Losing only Apple’s internal iPad-sealing flap, Surf Convertible preserves the fold-back functionality of the front lid, enabling this case to double as a video and keyboard stand as needed.

The look and feel are nicer than the iPad Case’s, semi-justifying the $5 premium over the synthetic-feeling plastic material Apple chose, but given Apple’s history of filing design patents for its cases, it’s safe to assume that this will become a limited edition in the not-too-distant future.
